The Shadow is a live and augmented performance — an innovative and ambitious project interweaving dance, live and electronic music, mixed reality, video, light, and sonic immersion, drawing on the cutting-edge technologies of IRCAM. The iconic tale The Shadow by Hans Christian Andersen is the inspiration for this show: a scholar offers his shadow the possibility of coming to life and gaining independence, breaking free and ultimately relegating the human to darkness. The obvious resonance with our contemporary world and its innovations — so unsettling and yet so fascinating — led choreographer Blanca Li and composer Édith Canat de Chizy to conceive this hybrid performance. Facing the dancers and a percussionist, and equipped with a mixed reality headset, the audience moves through a fantastical universe where the tangible and virtual perception blur into one.
